Invisible mending, Tustin, CA
Vahan reweaves moth holes, tears, and burns thread by thread, until the damage disappears. Walk in, or ship your garment from anywhere.

Three disciplines, one lost art
Reweaving is not patching and it is not darning. Vahan rebuilds the damaged warp and weft with threads taken from hidden areas of the garment itself, so the repair follows the original pattern. Even a small hole can take many hours. That patience is the whole point.
Threads are taken from hidden areas of the garment and woven through the hole, strand by strand, until the hole disappears. The mend is nearly invisible to the eye.
A patch of fabric is taken from a hidden area of the garment and used to recreate the same pattern and weave directly over the damaged area.
Yarn from the same material is used to re-knit damaged sweaters and knitwear. Knit garment sleeves or length can also be shortened.

What lands on the bench
From ruined to rewoven
Because reweaving is this meticulous, even a small hole can take many hours to repair. Here is how a garment moves through the studio.
Drop the garment at the Tustin studio, or ship it in from anywhere. Tell us what happened to it.
Vahan examines the weave, the pattern, and the damage, then confirms which technique will truly disappear.
Matching threads are taken from hidden areas of your own garment, so the mend is made of the garment itself.
The warp and weft are rebuilt thread by thread until the hole is gone. Pressed, finished, returned.
Where the work happens
Most reweaving clients never visit. Garments arrive by mail from across the country, get rewoven in Tustin, and go home looking untouched.
Before you ask
It is the reconstruction of a garment's damaged warp and weft threads using threads from the garment itself. Unlike a patch or a darn, the repair follows the original weave pattern, which is why the result is nearly invisible.
Moth holes, cigarette burns, silverfish damage, tears, and snags. French weaving handles small holes; in-weaving or piece weaving handles larger holes and tears; re-knitting handles sweaters and knitwear.
Virtually every type of garment: cashmere, tweed, plaid, wool, most silks, linen, cotton, and knits. Some results vary with the pattern, and Vahan will tell you honestly what to expect before starting.
Reweaving is extremely meticulous work, and even a small hole can take many hours to repair. Turnaround depends on the size and complexity of the damage. Call to discuss your garment.
